English Ivy by Betsy Talbot **Blog Tour, Excerpt & Giveaway**

English Ivy Synopsis:
Finally, contemporary romance for women over forty!

After a solid career as an economist working at the US Embassy in London, forty-two-year-old American Ivy Cross is ready to jump to the bigger paycheck of the private sector and finally make time for a relationship.

Madrid-based tech superstar Ruben Alegre both infuriates and intoxicates her, and if he only lived closer she'd consider risking her heart.

When the opportunity for an incredible new job in Berlin arrives in the form of sexy Christof Brandt, she wonders if the offer is too good to be true. Her Late Bloomer friends are split down the middle, offering support but no clear decision.

Will she find a future with Ruben? Start a new life in hip and gritty Berlin?

There are no easy answers, but Ivy can't deny that her life is about to change in a very big way.

One date was supposed to cure Ruben of this infatuation, but he wanted Ivy more now than ever. It killed him to put her in the back of the cab, to watch her drive away into the night without a guarantee they’d see each other again. All he could do was sit at the almost empty hotel bar nursing his drink, wishing he was upstairs in his hotel room with Ivy using their fiery chemistry for something more enjoyable than what had just happened.
Salsa dancing was a bad idea, or at least salsa dancing with a group lesson. He should have known they’d switch partners and spend much of the night with other people. Ruben had thought if Ivy saw him in demand she’d want him more, but the whole thing backfired.
Back when he was at university, he had a routine with all the women he dated. The same first date, the same romantic gestures over time, and even the same sexual experience. Step one, step two, step three, and so on. The method was reliable, and he followed it like a script, patting himself on the back every time he got through to the end. But Paz Gallegos threw cold water on his success when she told him he was too predictable to date.
Too predictable? But he was Ruben Alegre, lover of women, charming man about campus!
Paz had laughed at his outrage, before outlining his moves by counting on her fingers. “First, you’ll take me to the Egyptian monument for sunset. You’ll put your arm around me and then tell me I’m the only one you’ve ever taken there. Then we’ll go to a bar in La Latina where your friend works and you get two-for-one drinks with tapas. You’ll tell me you’ve never been there with anyone else. And on the way back you’ll stop to kiss me and shove your tongue down my throat to show your passion. Should I keep going?” Paz’s laughter killed his confidence, but then she saved him by revealing the best lesson he’d ever learned about women. “Where did you learn to do all that?” she asked.
Ruben remembered his stuttering response, face red-hot with embarrassment. “The guys. We all talk about what works, and I memorize the best moves.”
Paz nudged him with her elbow, face screwed up in confusion. “Why would you ask other men how to please women? Or even other women? Why not ask the one you’re with? We’re all different, you know.” Paz said it like it was the most logical thing in the world, and Ruben slowly realized it was. He was trying a cookie-cutter approach to custom chocolates.
Ever since then, he’d worked hard to pick up cues from the women he was with, anticipating what they’d like, asking when he didn’t know, and making sure they left satisfied. Ruben was now legitimately good at attracting women and making them happy. He just wasn’t good at staying in those relationships long enough to let them get to know him.
